Bernie Sanders ofter says that corporations should "pay their fair share". The problem is that corporate taxes, like any other business expense
is passed on through to the consumer. It is a hidden tax on us.
There are times when corporate taxes are good however.
The Better Angels of Our Nature
Why Violence Has Declined
by Steven Pinker
This can be a life changing text for those who are cynical about the current state of human culture. It covers much more than violence to advance the idea that human culture is progressing. Steven's videos are engaging, provocative and comforting. I'm envious of his hair.
Sam Harris
- Sam is a philosopher, neuroscientist and writer. His books are well written, thought provoking indictments of traditional religion and are well worth the time to read. His lack of humility however prevents him from recognizing how much religion has helped our cultures to thrive. An interesting dichotomy.
Supporters of the "Many Worlds" interpretation of quantum mechanics:
Sean Carroll
Max Tegmark
David Deutsch
The most convincing argument is that the math works before and after "wave function collapse". No more "shut up and calculate".
Future Shock by Alan Toffler
- Written with his wife the book was released in 1970. It outlines the result of cultural saturation from the explosion of information and information sources. The future he describes is what we live in today; post-truth and buried in BS.
Cool World on YouTube
- "The Strangest Idea in Science: Quantum Immortality" and others.
This site makes great explanation videos of difficult science subjects. Worthy of support.
PBS Space Time on YouTube
- "The Quantum Experiment that Broke Reality" and many others.
Matt O'Dowd and company do a fantastic job of presenting complicated astrophysics. They do get a bit "mathy" at times but the concept always comes through. Very worthy of support.
Towing Jehovah by James K. Morrow
- This is an adventure book with serious moral queries. Fantastic and entertaining but a bit offensive to the devout (I loaned it to my Christian brother and never saw it again).
"Just Have a Think" is a YouTube channel hosted by Dave Borlace. Dave does a fantastic job of reviewing the latest science papers about renewable energy and the environment.
Derek Alexander Muller is a science communicator and media personality, best known for his YouTube channel Veritasium,
What Game Theory Reveals About Life, The Universe, and Everything. I don't always agree with his conclusions but he does a great job of explaining science.
